A Ketogenic mom's Thanksgiving

I was laughing out loud reading this mail from a special mom . She is called the ketogenic mom . You may now be wondering what or who is a ketogenic mom ? . A ketogenic mom in my definition is a mom who has been deprived of her rights to feed her child the food of her/child's likings. She is forced to follow a protocol wherein you pump in fat into a baby's system (diagram explains) . Sad.... but nothing else can be done coz anti-epileptic medications don't work on some children.

So, here it goes..

The things I am thankful for this thanksgiving season.

I am thankful that I will spend extra time tomorrow preparing a meal that is specially tailored for my son.

I am thankful that he will not be eating turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, diner rolls, creamed corn, and pumpkin pie.

Also thankful for the time it will take me to weigh each food item in his meal.

Yes, I am thankful for the added stress of having to pack and bring his own special meal to the family gathering.

Thankful also that with the busy day I have to remember to give his vitamins and supplements that this diet lacks.

In addition I am thankful that my family will make comments on the portion size and large intake of fat my son will consume.

Very thankful that I will again get to explain the diet and how it works.

Of course I am thankful that I will have to tell my grandma that NO he cannot have "just one bite". (Even though I have told her many times)

Extremely thankful for my husband who supports us with this diet, and the many questions he has since he does not understand how it all works yet. (Yes it has been 8 months)

However, what I am most thankful for is the things I will not worry about at our family thanksgiving.

Thankful that I will not be worried about giving meds throughout the day because my son in now med free.

Even more thankful that I will not be worried about seizures this holiday season, which makes this our BEST thanksgiving EVER!

I have so much to be thankful for this thanksgiving season, it makes all the extra time and stress so worth it to see my beautiful son doing so well on the keto diet.

So I am thankful for the keto diet and the improvements my son has made on it.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and thank you to everyone on this site for all your advice, you have helped our family have success on this diet.

Imagine the plight of this mom

Few months ago she took her child to a store and you know the keto kids are always hungry because they have to stick to a meal schedule and can not eat variety of foods. Everything is weighed and calibrated. If the child sneaks in something, everything will go for a toss . When the mom was busy shopping this child moved over to the pet section and ate a dog biscuit. The mom got panicked , ran to the cash register and asked them whether the Dog biscuit contain any carbs :-) . Gosh, she was not worried whether it was ok to eat a dog biscuit :-( .
